Re-igniting Outreach and Fundraising Activities

Cheresa Bognar

It’s been a busy few months since I started at Dassenberg Rescue in February.

One of the skills I bring to the Organization are my qualifications in Animal-Assisted Interventions.  I am pleased to announce that as early as 28 May we will have restarted our Community Outreach Programme in partnership with Marian RC High School.

Another area that had been stymied by Covid were our popular Vintage Sales.  These will resume, starting 27 and 28 May.  Please see the details below.

The Dassenberg Vintage Sale

Those that have been to our previous sales will remember the incredible quality of the clothing on sale at simply ridiculous prices.  This year our clothing will include brand new clothes which have been donated by a top designer in Germany.  We are also very pleased to offer new clothes which have been donated to us by a popular local clothing brand, Soul Clothing.

We are over the moon about the choice of Venue and we hope that you’ll join us at The Range in Tokai, entrance on Orpen Road.

Please tell you friends and be sure to make your way to The Range on Friday and Saturday 27 – 28 May.

Community Outreach Project

As most of you are aware, we are based in Atlantis, one of the poorest townships around Cape Town.  While our primary objective is the rescue, rehabilitation and rehoming of dogs and horses (55 dogs, 23 horses and 13 donkeys), given the social context of the area we have committed ourselves to the betterment of the community.   It is for this reason that we say we aim to be ‘with heart and soul for animals and children’.

We have partnered with Marian RC High School to offer their female learners a chance at healing through animal assisted interventions.  Gangsterism is rife in this area and many of the learners have experienced stress and trauma, a reality they share with many of our rescue dogs and horses.  These animals started out as victims, but soon became the real heroes.

Using the limited resources at our and the school’s disposal we afford one Saturday facilitation every three months. We hope that the funds we raise through our Vintage Sale will mean that we can run these workshops for these learners more frequently.

Memories

Remembering our last Outreach Workshop which we did in September 2019 in collaboration with The Underdog Project.
