A New Addition. Welcome to our Donkeys.

Sept 2021 Hounds & Hooves

We’ve Missed You!

MAYANNA MUTER

During this lockdown period, we took the decision to put the welfare of the permanent residents on our farm first.  It was tough going, but we’re proud to announce that we made it through without a single case of covid!

But that doesn’t change the fact that we missed seeing our volunteers and are over the moon about opening our doors to the public again.

Naturally covid protocol will have to be adhered to so we encourage you to please let us know you are coming on:-
Dogs: Grenville 082 601 3534

A New Addition

Meet Spring-Maria!  She was born on 3 September at our Rescue Centre.  Isn’t she the cutest?

Like most of the animals on our Rescue Centre she has a very sad back story.  Her parents belonged to a Rastafarian who lived happily with his donkeys in the Klein Karoo.  His sudden death was very tragic and left his donkeys in a rather precarious position.

Fortunately, Dassenberg Rescue Volunteer, Grenville heard about this and came to their rescue.  ‘It was immediately obvious to me that these donkeys had been much loved!’

This is the second foal born from these donkeys, and will also be the last since they have now been sterilized.

Don’t forget to pop along to visit Spring-Maria next time you are on the farm.

Fundraising Auction

Many of you enjoyed and supported our Vintage Sales, however due to the Covid-19 pandemic, these sales along with any other live fundraising events have unfortunately been put on pause for the time being.

So we’ve decided to re-invent ourselves! Along with the help from bright young Michaelis Graduate, Paris Brummer, we are using this opportunity to grow and maintain a stronger online and social media presence in light of these contact-less times. Paris is a bit of a social media fundi and recently ran a very successful charity auction on instagram.

In these stressful and uncertain times, we know that disposable income for niceties is often secondary to needs but we acknowledge that many of you still want to support the work we do.

So here’s our big plan…. we are looking for donations of products and services that many of our supports will be buying anyway.  The big difference is of course that they’ll be making their usual purchases AND raising funds for our Rescue Animals.
Examples of things we thought would be of appeal; pet friendly self catering accommodation, dog or horse products, pet portraits, a meal voucher at a pet friendly restaurant.  If you have a brand that is somehow animal related or if you simply want to pitch in with something fun for us to auction, we’d love to hear from you.
Part of the success of the auction is based on the hype that is created when each donor shares and posts stories when their item comes up for auction. It’s a win win for everyone!

To RSVP and help us by taking part in this exciting initiative, please email us at fundraising@dassenbergrescue.org to tell us about yourself.  Deadline for submissions is Friday 5 November.  Thank you!

Why We Are Fundraising

Our commitment to our animals is extensive and costly, please watch this video to see what we do for each rescue animal.

Our Holistic New Approach

Since our start in 2010 we have witness unspeakable neglect and abuse of animals.  But we have come to recognize that this is symptom of broken people in our communities.  In 2019 we embarked on a programme to break this tragic cycle of violence. We believe that animals can work miracles, and in so doing these animals started out as victims, but soon became the real heroes – the vital connection in our community outreach work.

Lockdowns have put on pause on our community outreach programmes, but we have used this time to restructure our organization and our website towards achieving these goals.

Please look out for our new website on www.dassenbergrescue.org to see the holistic direction we are taking.  We are looking for social workers and socially minded people to help us achieve these goals and would love to hear from you. sonja@dassenbergrescue.org

Once again, the success of such a programme will depend on funds.  You can help us by following us on Instagram and telling your friends about our Auction 22 November to 6 January.
