Volunteer Receives Horses 4 Hope Training

MAYANNA MUTER

As the first Monty Roberts Certified Instructor in Africa, Horses 4 Hope founder Simon Marrier d’Unienville is helping Monty Roberts achieve his goal of “leaving the world a better place then I found it, for horses, and people too.”

Horses 4 Hope’s aims to train Monty Roberts Certified Instructors in each country around Africa – so they, in turn, can utilize equine-assisted programs, specifically the world-renowned methods of Monty Roberts, to reduce violence and other issues in their communities.

Rachel Buckland was lucky to be accepted into the Horses 4 Hope Bursary Programme and has received 2 weeks of intensive training at their facility in Johannesburg in July.  We wish Rachel all the best as she returns to Johannesburg to write her Monty Roberts Exam this month.

“This initiative is very much in line with the role we see Dassenberg playing within our community and we are delighted that one of our Volunteers is learning these skills. This will help us play a meaningful role in helping to reduce violence and animal abuse in our area.” Hugo Tickner

Vintage Sale 25 January

Dassenberg Rescue Centre is collaborating with a couple of NGO’s in a fundraising event at Springfield Convent on Saturday 25 January from 10am to 5pm.

We will each be responsible for our own stands and we are once again looking for help, please.

We need gently worn second-hand clothing for the sale.  Rails, hangers and volunteers to help us set up and run our stand.

Please contact Luci on 076 177 8409 if you can offer any help.

Many thanks

Success Story

In 2019 we reached out to Pupils from Marian High School in Clarke’s Estate. Working with The Underdog Project our Rescue Dogs became Therapy Dogs!

Our dream for 2020 is to establish Underdog Project at Dassenberg Rescue Centre.

Having run one successful Underdog Project Workshop, we are very excited to say we have been given to funding to go ahead with our next workshop in the New Year.

Thanks to The Team at ABSA for helping to turn our dream into a reality.
